The play—in which David Edgar returns to the subject matter he first explored some 30 years ago with Destiny, “the often febrile relationship between race and politics”—has as its theme “the strained relations between a modernising government and what it sees as the Old Labour bastions of the North.” The excellent production had a strong cast, which included Emma Fielding, David Troughton, Trevor Cooper, Oliver Ford Davies and Paul Bhattacharjee, an ex-member of The Young Theatre at Harrow. The latter being both unexpected and great to see.
